Scuba Diving
Scuba diving is the use of
independent breathing equipment to stay
underwater for long periods of time for
recreational diving and professional diving.
Generally the diver swims underwater, but
walking and the use of diver propulsion
vehicles is possible while breathing from
scuba equipment.
The word 'SCUBA' is
an acronym for "Self Contained Underwater
Breathing Apparatus", but it is
grammatically acceptable to refer to 'scuba
equipment' or 'scuba apparatus' in
conversation. The Professional
Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) is
the world's largest recreational diving
membership organization and diver training
organization. PADI Members (dive centers,
resorts, educational facilities,
instructors, assistant instructors, and
divemasters) teach the vast majority of the
world's recreational divers, issuing nearly
946,000 certifications each year. >>

There are several options
for the diver who would like to combine his
vacations with his hobby. Hundreds of
schools/organizations around the world are offering
accommodation and daily diving lessons and excursions.
This accommodation can be in hotels or self
catering rooms, or even on yachts properly equipped with
the necessary diving tools (compressors, bottles, etc.)
