RYA Commercially Endorsed
Yachtmaster
I have just
completed my RYA commercially endorsed Yachtmaster course and am
currently looking for work in the yachting industry. I have been
working in the watersports industry for 10 years now as an RYA
sailing and windsurfing instructor as well as other sports, and
between seasons I have worked in hospitality as a barman or waiter.
I completed my Yachtmaster course in a wide sailing area, from
Gibraltar, up the Iberian peninsular, across the Bay of Biscay then
up the Channel to The Solent in The UK where I successfully
completed my exam. I have also crewed yachts in different places
around the world such as The Whitsundays in Australia, The
Mediterranean, and a delivery from Canvey Island UK to Hamburg in
Germany.
EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
Apr 03 - Mar 05
P+O Ferries Pride
of Bilbao
I worked at sea on
the Pride of Bilbao to earn more money to pay for my Yachtmaster and
pay off travelling debts. I worked in the bars department where my
main tasks were to serve customers as well as providing table
service. Cleaning and stocking the bar was also one of my main
tasks. The ship carried up to 2000 passengers at times so working
under pressure was part and parcel of the work. The crew lived on
board in shared cabins on a watch system of 3 weeks on 2 weeks off,
and has to work 12 hours every day.
2002
Cool Cats
Watersports, Poole Harbour, UK.
I worked for Cool
Cats as a Watersports instructor teaching sailing and windsurfing as
well as taking clients from The Sandbanks Hotel out on a 6.5 metre,
twin 150 hp Rib, for trips around Poole Bay. Our clients ranged from
children on a 3 hour lesson to company days out or hen/stag parties.
This was to be my last season teaching as I wasn't earning enough
money and I wanted to further my career in Yachting.
2000 - 2001
East Mersea Youth
Camp, Mersea, Colchester
During my time here
I was an instructor of outdoor pursuits ranging from Canoeing and
Powerboating to Climbing and Mountain Biking. I was also promoted
to Team Leader were Ii was in charge of 8 other instructors. Our
clients would range from school holidays for a week, to Team
Building weekends for local businesses. I also was running a
programme for young offenders as well as helping out activities for
special needs children. After 2 years here I returned to
instructing purely watersports.
1999
Lee Valley
Watersports Centre, London
I worked as a
Sailing and Windsurfing Instructor here where my clients would be
all ages from school children to adults. I was also responsible for
organising dinghy race training for under 16's where they would then
compete against other clubs.
1998
Sunsail, Spartia,
Greece
I worked for
Sunsail as part of the beach team running Sailing and Windsurfing
courses at Spartia in Greece. Clients could range from 6 - 60 so was
very varied. At the beggining and end of the season we were
responsible for the fitting out and laying up of the day yachts and
flottilla yachts and sailing moving them where they needed to be.
Socialising with the clients was also a major part of the job.
December 96-April
98
Alpine Action, Plan
Peisy, France
During my time at
Alpine Action, I worked as Head Barman for the two winter seasons
and during the summer, as an instructor also. My responsibilities
were to stock the bar in the mornings and run the bar at lunchtime
and in the evenings. I was also in charge of evening
entertainments which involved organising quiz nights, silly games,
discos, karaokes and organised trips to clubs and pubs in Les
Arcs. Our main clientele was adult groups apart from occasional
schools and college groups who visited during school holiday
periods.
1996
Crystal Seas
Sailing, Menorca
This was my first
season teaching Sailing and Windsurfing, as well as my first
overseas. I spent an enjoyable 6 months running dinghy and
catermeran courses as well as windsurfing. During this time i also
got upgraded to RYA Racing and Catermeran Instructor.
INTERESTS AND
AMBITIONS
My principal
interests are sailing, windsurfing, snowboarding and football but I
have an interest in many other sports including wake-boarding,
skiing, mountain biking and surfing. I enjoy meeting people and
socialising, hence my decision to combine this with my love of
sports, and enter the leisure industry at an early age. My ambition
now is to continue a successfull career in watersports by moving
into yachts. I have also worked in Australia and traveled Asia and
Africa, so have a varied background and experince of other cultures
for someone of my age, added to my experience in hospitality and
watersports I would like to think I can be a valuable asset to any
yacht at any level but eventually would love to skipper Superyachts.
