Currently I am
sailing in the rank of Third Officer onboard the Pride of
Calais (Ro/Ro passenger Ferry). My main duties include
navigation and bridge work in the Dover Straits and loading
and discharging cargo including IMDG classified dangerous
goods. I am also responsible for the vessels Life Saving
Appliances (LSA) ranging from lifebuoys to the vessels
Marine Evacuation System (MES.) My duties include
supervising the planned maintenance, ordering stores and
equipment and ensuring that the vessel complies with SOLAS
regulations governing LSA at all times.

I took this job
after completing a foundation year at university. The cadet
training programme involves the completion of the OOW
qualification as well as the underpinning knowledge (writtens)
for Chief Mates unlimited certificate.

course and from working in all of the above situations.
Other
Information:
I am currently
working as 3rd officer onboard the Pride of
Calais for P&O ferries. It is my aim to take my sea going
career to the highest level and ultimately achieve my
Masters certificate. I would like to have experience on a
wide variety of ship types trading world wide. I believe
this would give me the necessary degree of knowledge to
further my career options both at sea and ashore in the
future.
