Sporades consist of four main islands, Skopelos, Skiathos, Alonissos and Skyros, that are grouped together near the Euboia Coast of the Aegean Sea. In fact, there are a lot of small islands and rocky outcroppings around the four main islands, which number more than 700, of which only 9 are inhabited.

While the islands share a similar landscape with dense pine forests and fruit orchards, they all have their very own distinct personalities. All four islands have something to offer to the holiday maker, whether they are looking for night life, quiet beaches, water sports, mountain walks or just a hideaway from everything!

Sporades history
There is constant human presence in the main islands of Sporades since the Palaeolithic period. According to Greek myths, Skyros was the island where Theseas, the hero of Athens, was assassinated by the king of this island, Lykomides. According to Homer, the same king had been entrusted by Thetis to hide her son Achilles – disguised as a girl – in order to keep him away from the Trojan War, but Odysseus uncovered their deceit.

A significant point in the islands history was their participation in the Athenian-led alliance of 478 BC. Later they submitted to the Romans followed by the Byzantines. From 1207 Sporades were dominated by the Venetians, who remained there up to the Turkish conquest of 1538. All the islands were liberated in 1830, joining the Greek State.

	The lush vegetation and the impressive golden coasts, which are calculated to be approximately 60, are the main characteristics of the cosmopolitan and picturesque Skiathos. At Hora you will admire the various natural and historical sightseeing, while at Koukounaries you will enjoy numerous water sports. Skopelos, the administrative center of Sporades, is famous for its superb wine. Visit the beaches of Hovolos, Milia, Adrina, Agnodas, Stafylos, Kanapitsa and visit the scenic settlements, the traditional monasteries and the archaeological monuments. Ideal for peaceful vacations, Alonissos is gifted with impressive caves, lush verdure and crystal waters. There you will come across the Mediterranean seal Monachus Monachus. Visit Hora (Patitiri), Votsi and Steni Vala as well as the surrounding islets. Skyros, remoted from the other Sporades and tourism, maintains its traditional character, while it is famous for the local furniture and the local horse breed. Hora or Horio, Linaria, Magazia and Molos are the settlements where you will find the most interesting sightseeing. There is one airport in Sporades, on Skiathos island, with international charter flights during the summer period. There is a frequent daily ferry connection with the adjacent town of Volos and high speed hydrofoil connection with Volos and Ag. Konstandinos town.
