If one approaches Argostoli from the west, caution is needed around the low island Vardiani because of the surrounding reefs.

The space available for pleasure craft is beyond the port authority building, stern-to (quay AB) -the best berth- or docking on the quay along the sea-shore road. The harbour provides protection from all weather, but north westerlies blow fiercely down the entire bay creating difficulties for craft moored stern-to parallel to the wind's direction.

A little south of these berths is Argostoli's central food and produce market. One street in, parallel to the sea-shore, is the shopping area
