Port Gaios is the principal port of
Paxos island. On the islets off the harbour are a Venetian fort and the
former Monastery of the Panayia.
You can moor right in the middle of the busy touristy scenery of this
charming place or choose a more quiet berth further down the long (about 1
km) quay. |
The harbour provides
excellent shelter in all weathers; yet, careful should be taken on the
length of your anchor, as passing ferries in the narrow
canal may overcome your chain.
Gaios is a popular
place for excursions from Corfu making it very crowded place
in the summer. Ferry boats, flotilla and private
yachts churn in and out choking the little harbour. If
you want a berth in the height of summer be here early in
the afternoon. .
