Lefkas Town lies a short distance down
the canal, at the point where the canal
turns to run SE. The buildings of the
town are easily seen and the location of
the harbour is hard to mistake. Except
the Town's harbour, where berthing is
rather cheep, there is a recently built
Marina. |
Both mooring spots offer good -all weather- shelter and
most of the facilities a yachtie expects to find.
The
Lefkas canal enables sailors to pass along the east
side of the island, which has 90% of the good
anchorages. From the north the entrance can be found by
locating the Santa Maura Fort. The
canal proper (dotted
lines) starts after Lefkas Town and is marked by red and
green poles and by red and green buoys when the canal
turns south. The ancient submerged breakwater is
located opposite the St. George Fort.
