Kioni is a picturesque little village at
the north part of Ithaca island. It's
harbour is very deep (12-15 m.) and
therefore a long chain on your anchor is
required. Bottom is weedy with medium
holding.
The wind blows almost continually here
(the island of Ithaca was called by the
ancient Greeks "island of Aeolos" -the |
god of the winds) but as it's direction is from the key to
the sea, it is quite safe. Your vessel holds on the
mooring ropes and uses your anchor to prevent swinging.
The village Stavros -supposed to be Ulysses home town-
is only 3 kms from here.
