Pontikonisi - click to enlarge and view map Corfu (Greek: Kerkyra) is the most northerly of the Ionian islands.  Most important ports are:
· Corfu Town
· Gouvia Marina
· Petriti village
· Paleokastritsa Port
· Ag. Stefanos Port
· Agni Bay
Corfu is situated only 1 nm off the coast of Albania and the Greek region of Epirus and offers gentle green uplands in the south and rugged limestone hills in the north, rising to 906 m in the double peak of Mt Pantokrator.

The references to Corfu from Homer to the present day praise the island as a lush green paradise spinning a soothing spell over all who visit it.  In an age of package holidays the Corfu magic is continuously battered by jets winging in with yet more holidaymakers -and far, far more go to Corfu than to the rest of the Ionian - so it is surprising to find there are still charming and beautiful places on the island.
