 From the distance the buildings of Kalymnos Town
(Pothia) around the bay and a number of white oil storage
tanks to the E of the town are conspicuous. With the
"meltemi" blowing there are strong gusts off the high land
down into the approaches and in Ormos Kalymnou itself.
Go stern-to or bows-to the quay in the SW. The bottom
is mud and weed and the holding uncertain if an anchor
cannot cut through the weed cover. At the elbow of the
yacht quay it easy for anchors to get crossed so it
may be worthwhile to use a trip line.
Good shelter -the gusts from the meltemi are not troublesome
in the harbour. With strong southerlies an
uncomfortable swell enters the harbour but it is not
dangerous. |
