North Cyclades group includes Kea, Kythnos, Andros, Tinos, Syros
(Cyclades' capital) and Myconos. The island of Yaros, which stands
in the very middle of this group is not included, as nowadays is a
military base and approaching is prohibited.
The North Cyclades are
scattered across the southern Aegean Sea between the Cape
Sounio and Turkey, and bordered by the Saronic Gulf Islands
to the west and the Dodekanese to the east. The group is
made up 7 islands, but the major destinations are Andros,
Kythnos, Kea, Myconos, Syros and Tinos.
The
Cyclades' historic core is the ancient site of Delos, lying
off Mykonos. Naxos and Andros are the largest and most
fertile islands. Makronisos and Yaros are not included
in this directory, as the first has no ports or anchorages
and Yaros is a military base for Greek navy and therefore
approaching is prohibited. Also Delos will be
presented as part of Myconos, as you may visit the island
only as an excursion from Myconos and remaining there is
prohibited. |
