Sun Odyssey 45
|
Designed by Philippe Briand and
the Jeanneau Design department, the
Sun Odyssey 45 is a cruising
sailboat with nautical elegance. The
sleek lines are inspired by the Sun
Odyssey 49 from the same designer.
It is a performance cruiser with an
emphasis on stylish, hassle-free and
comfortable cruising with a few
people—or even a bunch of
people—aboard.
Performances and handling
The
cockpit is inviting and well-designed. Two wheels
open up the cockpit and make socializing and reaching
the stern of the boat easy. A cockpit table offers a
central gathering place, some storage, and provides additional headroom and light
in the
aft cabin.
Jeanneau has standardized its deck
hardware and rigging with
top-quality Spinlock rope
clutches and Harken turning blocks. Its
double-spreader rig is simple and sturdy, powerful
enough to make fast passages but generally within the
grasp of a vacationing or an inexperienced crew.
The primary winches are not within
reach of the helm. One |

other nitpick is an issue that comes up
with all aft-cabin, aft-cockpit boats and
was apparent, but certainly not to any
alarming degree, in the Jeanneau. This
arrangement sacrifices some “garage” storage
in the aft end of the boat. And a boat of
this size, layout, and range will certainly
have plenty of ancillary toys and gear
requiring storage space.
Accommodation
Below-decks, light pours in from a
multitude of ports and hatches.
The
interior is clean and European in
design, but broad teak surfaces provide
warmth and rich beauty.
Several
configurations are available below.
The 2 and 3-cabin layouts -with an L-shaped
galley- mostly match the American market.
A
4-cabin layout has been designed, with
a
linear shaped galley, to make her popular
in the chartering world. A full-sized nav
station and inviting saloon table are also
part of the spacious saloon. Two
mirror
cabins aft with hanging lockers, and
another two forward provide accommodation to
8 guests. Two heads with shower are
just forward from the aft cabins.
Charter price
With charter price €4.100 per week, you will
find the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45 rather
expensive to charter, above most of the
similar size and age vessels. Yet, the
performances and the quality of this boat in
all aspects explain the high price
commended.
