Sun Odyssey 37,1 -
JEANNEAU YACHTS
|
Sun
Odyssey 37,1 was designed by Faurox for Jeanneau firm in 1995
(she was replaced in the year 2000 from the Sun Odyssey 37 model
from the same designer).
The standard model has two WC, but there is also a version with one
WC only. The layout is the typical (2 aft cabins, one delta
shape front cabin), when the saloon has the WC and the galley along
the starboard side and the chart-table, the dining table and settees
on the port side. Nothing prototype or fancy, but the saloon
is decorated with a very pleasant light teak and well ventilated.
The deep (fin type, 1,90 m.) keel together with the kevlar
reinforced light hull are giving the Sun Odyssey 37,1 good sailing
performances -above the average of other yachts in the category.
She can also reach a good speed when motoring -especially the boats
equipped with the larger Yanmar 48 hp engine.
A large (single) wheel, furling systems on both sales and the
control of almost all the halyards and sheets without the need of
leaving the cockpit are a (+) in the handling of the boat, again
nothing fancy or prototype, but everything is there when you need
it. I find remarkable the reaction of the Sun Odyssey 37,1
when reversing (I believe that this is thanks to the deep fin keel).
It takes only 2-3 seconds after putting the throttle in "reverse"
and the boat is yours following the direction you want her to go.
In general, the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 37,1 without having
something to "show" (with the exception of slightly better
performances than the other boats of her category), is a charter
boat that has "everything". If I was to name a boat as the
representative charter vessel (at 36-38 feet) for the 90's, this
would probably be this one.
So, why is she so successful? I mean really a great success.
From the first year she was presented by Jeanneau until today the
Sun Odyssey 37,1 was loved from both, the yacht owners and the
charterers. She is still available in the catalogues of most
charter agencies around the world (a remarkable achievement
considering the fact that a charter boat older than 5 years is
labeled as pre-historical). I guess the answer is simple:
Because she has everything in place, she is easy to handle AND she
has good sailing performances. A great hit for Jeanneau and we
must credit them for that. Today, the Sun Odyssey 37,1 is a
vessel any charterer -who doesn't care for the "last year's model"-
should take in consideration when planning his holidays. |
