Gib Sea 43 / Dufour 43
|
The
Gib Sea 43 has been awarded the Cruising Worlds Boat of the
Year Award for Best Production Boat under $200,000 for the year
2001. Gib Sea claims that this did not happen accidentally, as the Dufour/Gib Sea series
was designed and developed after extensive consultation with boat
buyers and users around the world.
The Gib Sea 43 has the unique ability to be converted from 3 to 4 or
4 to 3 cabins with the quick and easy removal and storage of the
cabin doors (there is a special space next to the hanging locker for
storing the doors).
The forward cabin then becomes a large
area with settee seating and a master cabin (to my knowledge, the
last charter boat offering this facility was the Trinidad model by
Jeanneau, built in 1985).
The twin steering stations allow for good visibility on either port
or starboard tack, and provide the additional benefit of leaving a
clear centerline entry into the cockpit through the transom from the
integral swim platform. The wheel on the starboard side has the
throttle controls, while the compass and the Raytheon ST60
instrumentation are inset into the binnacle set into the table base,
easily visible from either side. A locker in the port side of the
transom is fitted for a five-gallon propane tank with overboard
drains, and the other side has a deep locker for stowing the shore
power cable.
The Gib Sea 43 / Dufour 43 can accommodate up to 9 guests (7 guests
when you convert the front cabin) in 2 aft (double
bedded) and two front (one of the front cabins has upper and lower banks
and the other the typical delta shape double bed) cabins. One
more person can sleep in the saloon area.
The spacious interior is paneled throughout with a “Light Tola”
exotic African teak. The main saloon with the table has L-shaped
settees on both sides. The settee amidships has an upholstered
stainless rail as a back rest, and underneath the settee is ready
access to all the pumps.
At an average charter price for the category the Gib Sea 43 can be a
very good choice (a) if you are not certain of how many of
your friends/family members will finally join you to your sailing
vacation and/or (b) if the extra space of the front cabin
plays a big role in your preferences. |
