The
Gib Sea 362 was introduced from Gilbert Marine in 1992.
Designed for the charter market needs she offers a 3 cabins layout
in a rather small boat (the L.W.L. is only 8,9 m., so the naming 362
is optimistic, as the yacht is actually a 34 footer).
The sailing performances are not the best for the category, were
most of the competition are making better.
The saloon has the traditional layout of the '80's (galley left,
chart table on the right and the dinette in the front part of the
saloon with couches both sides. The four panoramic windows are
making the saloon very bright. Unfortunately, they do not open
so the ventilation suffers. Another problem
is that due to their "Γ"
shape it is difficult to seal them properly and
they require continuous maintenance -otherwise they leak.
The handling of the boat is typical. Most of the halyards are
controlled from the cockpit. The later models ('94 -
'95) are equipped with in-mast furling main sail.
The charter price at €1.800 per week is good for a 36 footer, but
since the boat is smaller I wouldn't name it good.
To summarize, although the Gib Sea 362 is not a bad boat, she felled
victim of marketing methods trying to present her larger than her
size. The result is that compared with the competition (Sun
Odyssey 36,2, Oceanis 351 or the Bavaria 36 -all boats of the middle
'90's) she cannot stand
against these boats. I would consider chartering -and
suggest it as a good choice, only at a price below €1.600 per week
for the peak period. |
