Gib
Sea 334 is an older model by Gilbert Marine (built in the
middle '90's) still in use for
charters dew to its' solid construction, balanced layout and
accommodation facilities. This model is one of the
smallest (together with the Jeanneau
Sun Odyssey 33,1) boats
at 33 feet offering a 3-cabins layout.
Her sailing performances are following the standards of the
category. Since she is a "bulky" boat and she has furling
systems on both sails, her performances are poor in all kind of
navigation (against, by side or down-winds). On the other
hand, most of the charter yachts of similar length have similar
performances. After all, people charter them to have fun -not
to race.
All sheets and halyards are controlled from the cockpit (there are
only two winches for the halyards and another two for the genoa
sheets).
The saloon -bright and well ventilated- the galley on the right,
when the chart-table and the dinette are left, following the modern
layout
of the '90's. The head is sharing the front cabin's space.
Due to the size of the vessel all cabins are rather small.
Although the boat is capable of sleeping 8 guests, anything more
than 5-6 is overcrowded.
At €1.600 per week, the Gib Sea 334 is excellent choice for a family
(adults and children) of 6. For six adults she is simply not
big enough.
Unfortunately, although she is a good charter boat, she felled
victim of the situation after 2003, when Gilbert Marine ceased
operations and started distributed from Dufour network. The
agencies connected with Gib Sea stopped promoting the boats and
those related with Dufour are promoting only the newer vessels -like
the Dufour/Gib Sea 43.
So, it will be difficult to find the Gib Sea 334 on the charter
agencies pricelists. |
