Beneteau took very seriously
their presentation at the range of
12m. yachts so, except the yacht
architect Bruce Farr, they also
hired the famous car designer
Pininfarina who has also left his
stamp of genius on the First 45f5.
Performances and handling
From the keel to the masthead, the
First 45f5 is born in to
performance. Advanced keel design,
modern rudder, long waterline, fine
entry and minimum wetted surface.
Handling is easy. All halyards, control lines and
sheets are lead aft to either
side of the companionway, where
they are controlled by Lewmar
self-tailing winches placed
behind a bank of stoppers.
Rolling mechanisms on both sails
making navigation of such a size
boat easy, even for one person.
Accommodation
Pininfarina designed a
unique entry on the
cockpit -a folding pasarele which
becomes part of the transom when is
lifted up.

several opening hatches on the coachroof
and 4 (thin) side windows, the saloon is a
bit dark -thanks to the dark mahogany used
for the interior. The finishing
details are of high standards, as one
expects from Beneteau. An
oval dinette with enough space
for eight guests faces the
large galley in the starboard
side.
Four double bedded cabins in the
charter version offer
accommodation to 8 guests. The forward
cabins have "less" bed but more locker
space, when the two aft cabins are the
opposite.
Charter price
The charter price €3.370 per week, is very
good compared
with the same age and size yachts and
extremely good when
you compare with newer vessels.
Although she was not designed for charters,
I find the Beneteau 45f5 one of the best
options to consider. She is an
excellent sailor, handled easy, good
accommodation and she is offered in
reasonable price. The only problem is
that you will face difficulties on finding
one to charter.
