Beneteau First 42
|
Designed by German Frers for
Beneteau in the early '80s, the
First 42 is one of the boats which
established Beneteau amongst the top
yacht builders.
Performances and handling
This yacht is a cruiser/racer -by
far not a yacht designed for
charters. Yet, she was used in
the charter industry simply because
Beneteau didn't had an alternative
suggestion these days (the Oceanis
series started in 1985).
Her
sailing performances are astonishing
and she is extremely fast -truly a
boat made for sailors.
Unfortunately, the
handling is also made for sailors..
There is no in-mast furling for the
main sail (on some yachts there is
no furling to the genoa too) and for
many operations one should leave the
cockpit and execute them in the mast
foot. Steering is accurate but
"heavy".
Accommodation
The boat is offered from Beneteau in
two versions -a 2-cabin |

owner's version and a 3-cabin version.
Both share the same saloon and two heads
with shower. As expected, the cabin
size is not the largest for a 42ft yacht.
The saloon is not so bright and is
ventilated only from one large hatch on the
coachroof.
Charter price
The price -if you find a First 42 to
charter- should be at the range of € 2.100 per week, average compared
with the same age yachts and very good when
you compare with newer vessels.
This boat is not for everyone. Those,
who are seeking for a real sailor and don't
want to spent a small fortune for a newer
boat, should consider chartering her.
They will be rewarded with a top class,
all-time classic yacht.
