First
40,7
|
The First 40.7 combines a sleek
and sophisticated racer with some
comforts of a cruiser. Her
Farr Yacht Design ® hull and
powerful rig provides excellent
performance whether you're on the
race course or if you just want to
get to the next harbor a little more
quickly than usual.
This is the longest live Beneteau
model in production -continuously
since she was launched in 1994.
Of course some minor changes and
improvements were done, but the
basic model remains the same.
Performances and handling
Bruce Farr designed an IMS racing
boat and Beneteau created a cruiser
out of it. The compromises
that had to be done did not alter
the basic character of the yacht
-she always remain a performance
vessel.
The
cockpit is rather small and
overwhelmed from a huge wheel.
The traveller is once again in the
middle of the cockpit. Practical "goodies", like an in-mast main
sail furling mechanism are out of
any question -a fully button sail is
what you will find |

Your opinion matters |

on most of these vessels. As for
the performances, only one word can describe
them: she is FAST.
Accommodation
Down below, forward of the two
aft cabins, there's an
L-shaped galley to starboard and the nav
station to port. Just ahead is the
settee and table. The forward cabin
has a v-berth, a hanging locker and access
to the head, which is adjacent to it and
accessed from the
saloon too. All
cabins and areas are small with the
exception of the
chart-table which is
spacious. Yet, the quality of the
finishing details is excellent and we must
credit Beneteau for that.
Charter price
Although this is almost a racer boat,
several agencies charter her (obviously
there must be a demand for such boats), so
it is included in our pages. I faced
difficulties on finding similar boats to
compare her. All the similar yachts in
the list are 70/30 cruiser/racer, when the
First 40,7 is the opposite.
This is a "special" boat and requires
"special" people to charter her. If,
for you, the performances are above all and
you don't pay attention to "minor" details
(e.g. acrobat skills to move on the
cockpit), then this is THE boat for you.
In any other case, forget about her.
