Dufour
525 Grand' large
Flagship of the Dufour Brand
-designed from Umberto Felci &
Patrick Roseo- released at the Paris Boat Show
December 2006. The Dufour 525
Grand'Large, is
to be more modern, with
straightforward lines and a strong
and appealing design characteristic
for Dufour Yachts.
Performances and handling
She has a bow
sprit Cunning transom
revealing a great volume for dinghy
and liferaft with an uncluttered
deck, large side decks. The sail plan
and deck fittings have been adapted
to ensure crew safety. All
manoeuvres lead to the cockpit under
deck for more comfort and safety
with a double steering wheel system.
On deck the cockpit is
vast - with perhaps a
feeling of being a
little too open, yet
when sailing in a decent
breeze during the trial
it was dry and very
comfortable. The port
and starboard helm
positions have
all round vision –
thanks to the low
profile of the gently
contoured coach roof.
The wide, full-beam
Bimini Top offers good
shade cover to all of
the cockpit and helmsman
position, leaving the
aft sun-deck
partially covered.

of navigational instruments
are easily seen from either helm position.
Under sail her performance is taut,
slightly stiff but responsive. She
points well into wind achieving up to 35º
with ease - especially for a beamy cruising
boat. On a reach in 10 knots of wind she
achieved 7.5 knots - a creditable
performance from her in-mast fully battened
Mainsail and Furling Genoa.
Accommodation
Internally the
styling is chic.
Small details are worth noting - louvered
blinds to the cabin windows, tactile rounded
stainless steel door handles, square door
frames (not the traditional rounded!) and a
lavish use of complementing wood finish
creating a feeling of a ‘room’, rather than
a ’cabin’ in the main saloon. The galley
-with double sink and Corian® work surfaces-
can either be in the European
linear style or,
L-shape allowing more space for
the saloon.
Sleeping arrangements
are excellent –
decent sized slatted
mattresses give maximum comfort. The
heads,
with separate shower cubicle for the master
suite, are spacious and clean cut. A
cunningly designed Skipper’s en-suite
for’
peak cabin allows for complete privacy for
the guests, or can double as a capacious
sail locker.
Charter price
The charter price -at €6.300 per week- is
average compared with the same age and size
yachts. If you have a large crew you
should definitely consider her as an option.
