The Bavaria
46 Holiday was designed by Bavaria in 1998 and was continuously
in production until she was replaced by the Bavaria 46C model in
2003.
Single wheel helm and with remarkable (for a vessel designed
primarily for the chartering needs) sailing performances, this boat
is one of the best the German firm has ever built. The deep
fin keel (2 meters) allows a close angle against the wind and the
well designed underwater parts offers a "smooth" sailing without
"banging" when sailing against high waves.
The in-mast main sail furling system and the control of all the
lines without the need of leaving the cockpit are offering an easy
handling, although the boat is "heavy" and steering her in rough
weather conditions can be exhausting after sometime.
Definitely a second steering wheel would add a lot in comfort and
easy of handling. Also, a minus for the boat is the small
number and low quality of the winches.
The Bavaria 46 Holiday
can accommodate up to 10 guests in 2 aft (double bedded) and two
front (upper and lower banks) cabins. With nothing really
"missing", the quality of the finishing is not the best I've seen
and to my opinion a lighter colour (the saloon is in dark mahogany)
would "bright up" the well ventilated cabins.
At a charter price 15% - 20% less than a newer French or German
boat, a well maintained Bavaria 46 Holiday is one of the best
choices a charterer can get. This boat will sail him fast,
easily and in comfort and safety; the small negative details in the
finishing and the low quality of some parts of the boat are not
enough to devaluate the generally very good icon of this vessel,
neither to spoil your holiday.
