The
Bavaria 36 was in production from the German firm from 2003 till
2005. This is a different model from the Bavaria 36 of the
'90's, as it was completely re-designed and she offers different
specifications and layout from her ancestor, therefore she will be
reviewed as a new boat.
The new Bavaria 36 was designed -as most of the Bavaria models- with
the charter market needs in mind, yet her sailing performances are
not bad, especially down-wind. Against the wind she doesn't
make it so good and a deeper fin keel would improve her
performances.
The forestay divides in two allowing
easy
entrance to the cockpit, which is not so large (I guess the
reason for that is to provide the aft cabins more space). A
central wheel carries the helming orders and there's good access to
the water and the swim platform from the handy walk-through transom.
All sheets and halyards are controlled from the cockpit (two winches
for the genoa sheets and another two for all the other functions).
Certainly two additional winches would improve the easy of handling.
Walking down, the interior is finished with
mahogany
joinery throughout. Bavaria designed this boat with
the older
layout, were the navigation station is provided at the base
of the companionway and opposite the galley. A folding dinette
table and seating for 6 is ahead of the
L-shaped
galley and the
chart-table.
The head with shower is located forward of the
main saloon, adjacent to the forward v-berth, with private access
from both the forward and main cabins. The
forward
v-berth on the Bavaria 36 is rather small (sharing the same
compartment with the head), while each
aft cabin is
sufficient for two adults but ideal for children while still
allowing for plenty of storage space.
The Bavaria 36 is one of the most
economical, 3 cabin sailboat available for charter. She's great for young families or for those with
champagne tastes and modest vacation budgets! |
