Bavaria 35 Holiday
|
The Bavaria 35 Holiday was designed by Bavaria in 1994 and was continuously
in production until she was replaced by the Bavaria 36 model in
1997.
This boat -just like the other Bavaria models of the "Holiday"
series- has been designed with the charter market needs in mind.
So, she follows the style and practices of this category.
Plenty of space (in the expense of the performances), easy of
handling and low quality construction and materials in order to keep
the price low.
Sailing performances: Typical.. the boat is
offered with two optional keels (a) 1,80 m fin keel, or (b)
1,40 m fin
keel with wings. The vessels with the deep keel
(option a) achieve some descent performances -especially when
sailing against the wind. Unfortunately, most of the boats you
will find to charter are using the option (b) keel, as this is one
of the "demands" of the charter market (boats deep as less as
possible, to minimize chances for groundings and easy access in more
harbours)
Accommodation: The Bavaria 35 Holiday
can accommodate up to 7 guests in 2
aft (double bedded) and
one
front (V-shape) cabins. One more person can sleep in the
saloon, although -to my opinion- 7 guests onboard a vessel of this
size is a bit extreme.
The saloon follows the classic for the '90's
layout,
with the WC and galley in-line in the starboard, and the dinette
(U-shape) and the
chart table in the board side.
Easy of handling: Single wheel helming, in-mast main
sail furling system and the control of all the lines without the
need of leaving the cockpit are offering an easy handling.
When maneuvering, she responds fast and precise. A few more
winches -there are only four, to serve all the halyards and sheets-
would certainly "add" to the handling.
Charter price: The Bavaria 35H had a good charter price
even back in 1996 when she was a new model. Today (2006), the
charter price is excellent compared to the amount you will need to
pay for a new 35 footer. The problem is that you will face
difficulties to find available yachts, as this model does no longer
exist in most of the charter agencies catalogues and price-lists. |
