Dufour
Atoll 4
|
The Dufour Atoll 43 (also called
Atoll 4) is a
boat designed from Philippe Briand
for Dufour in 1998, targeting the
charter market and the holiday
makers. She offers
the kind of living comfort usually
associated with catamarans (her beam
is 4,63m.) -in expense of
the performances.
Performances and handling
The
exterior living space is sheltered
by a rigid hardtop, which can be
closed off with side-panels. Twin
steering wheels are placed aft and
all sheet and halyards lead there.
Some yachts are equipped with
in-mast main furling mechanism, when
others have the traditional
semi-batten main sail with
lazy-jacks. A
panoramic windscreen ensures forward
visibility. In absolute surface area
the cockpit is almost two and a half
times that of a traditional cockpit.
As for the performances they are
certainly not her strong point.
Accommodation
Open cockpit leads to the
dinette area and the
galley
next -all in the same level. Down
below the companionway leads
to a central corridor with access to
all
four cabins and the two heads.

enables them to be transformed into
one larger. Most of the interior is in
white melamine, reminding more of an
intensive care room than a boat.
Charter price
I'm not sure I understand what Dufour and
Briand had in mind offering this boat, as
she doesn't seem to please anyone.
Those who care -even to a degree only- for
performances will never choose her, when
people who prefer luxuries will not be happy
from the size of the forward cabins and the
general "cheap" look of the interior.
On top of that, priced at €3.900 she is
expensive.
