S/Y Atlantic 31

Atlantic 31 was designed and built from
the Greek factory in the early '90's.
Sleek lines and light construction are the
basic characteristics of this model.
Also, some unique designing techniques were
practiced.
The first thing to notice when entering the
boat is the
absence of transom (usual in
larger vessels but never on such a small
boat). Walking down to the saloon you
find the engine under the dinette.
This layout gives extra space in the aft
cabin -and the deck & locker above- but it
limits the living space in the saloon and
the front cabin (which is only a berth,
separated from the saloon with a curtain).
It increases the noise in the saloon when
the engine is on, too.
Sailing performances
Originally
tiller helming was replaced in
the later models with a wheel.
Atlantic 31 is light and very fast in open
courses but she doesn't make it so good when
sailing against strong winds. Although
there is no in-mast furling, she is easy to
handle in the open sea and relatively
difficult maneuvered in the harbours. |
