ALMI YACHTS was established in 1986, in the
Kalamaki area of Athens, as a small family run company with
modern ideas about yachting. Today, after almost 20 years, we
have moved our base to the island of Corfu. We remain a family
run business, rich in experience and knowledge of yachting,
yachts and people. |
Almi Yachts LtdThe
original owner and manager of the company is the author of this
letter, Alexander Vournas. Having introduced myself to you I
will continue this letter in the first person. I was
brought up as a sailor by my father and continued as a
professional skipper in my twenties and after a few years bought
my first charter boat - a Gin Fizz, in the early eighties. Finally I established Almi Yachts - AL from Alexander, and MI
from Michael, the name of both my father and my son. This was
in 1986 and was a natural development to cope with the
increasing demands of my growing list of clients and the fact
that I then owned three boats. The company grew to one of the foremost yacht
charter companies in Greece, specialising in bareboat and
flotilla sailing until, in 1994, our major client - Med Choice,
formerly Yugo Tours, for whom we provided and run two flotillas -
fell victim to the political and commercial
sanctions imposed upon Serbian interests by the UK,
and others, and was forced to cease trading. This

In 2004 the status of Almi
Yachts changed - yet again. Thanks to the
internet, I have re-organised my personal and my
business life. Taking advantage of "internet
marketing techniques", a subject for which I
appear to have some sort of talent, I no longer
need to act as a pure yacht charter agent,
except on the flotilla side of Almi Yachts.
Does this mean that you should
forget all about Almi Yachts - not at all... on
the contrary, from now on, this site will be of
even more use to you because it will provide,
through our pages,
free information on
all aspects of yacht chartering.

agencies, give direct access to the most
reliable boat owners, participation in charter
bidding and auctions - and a whole lot more, I
can not possible show you all this on one page.
Finally, I would like to thank
all the many people who have entrusted me with
their sailing holidays over the last two
decades, and thank you all for visiting our
site. I sincerely hope that I will have the
great pleasure of meeting in person one day in
the not too distant future.
