Mega Yachts
Mega yachts are very expensive privately
owned yachts, which are larger than 50m
(160ft) and professionally crewed.
They might be either heavy displacement, with a
cruising speed between 10 and 14 knots, or fast
planning motor yachts capable of continuous
speeds in excess of 20 knots, motorsailers
combining wind, sail and the power of a
motor, or luxury sailing yachts combine
exhilarating performance under sail with the
ability to motor at speeds of up to 12
knots.
Some yachts are used
exclusively by their private owners, others
are operated all year round as charter
businesses, and a large number are privately
owned but available for charter part time.
