Flotilla
holidays requirements
Flotilla holidays require the charterer, the skipper and the crew to comply with
various regulations, some extracted from the
laws of the destination country and others from
the charter agencies and the flotilla operators. Failure to comply
with these regulations could end up in a very
unpleasant situation...
Although by many is considered as a different type of
yachting holidays, flotilla sailing is a
bareboat, with the addition of a leading
boat and crew. You still charter the whole boat and you
are fully responsible for the condition
of your vessel. You also need to leave a
refundable security deposit -or a premium
Not very experienced? No problem. Most of the flotilla operators provide
-under a certain fee- sailing lessons during the first 2-3 days of your holidays.

Country's requirements
- While sailing you should
respect the country's laws, as well as the
international naval laws and ethics.
- You must always carry
onboard your charter contract -demand from
your agent to provide you a copy.
- A crew list should always
be at the disposal of local port-police
authorities, if you are asked to provide
them one during your holidays.

Sailing
experience

To
join a flotilla, at least one
person on board must have enough
sailing experience to be able to
safely navigate a yacht of this
size. If you can easily sail an
open sailing boat on a lake,
this should be sufficient
experience for sailing a
flotilla boat.
If you feel doubtful about your
sailing ability, you might
either take a course in your own
country before leaving to
refresh your knowledge, or
request from the flotilla
operators to provide -under a
certain fee- sailing lessons
during the first 2-3 days of
your holidays.
Such a
requirement is better to be
discussed early, preferably upon
your booking. |

Charter agency's
requirements |
Most of the flotilla operators will require by you that:
-
at least one person on board must
have enough sailing experience to be
able to safely navigate a yacht of
this size
- You will need to leave with
the agency a refundable deposit to
cover any loss or damage during the
trip, that is not covered by the
vessel's insurance. The amount
of this deposit varies with size and
value of the yacht and it may be
paid in cash, traveller's cheques or major credit card prior to embarkation.
This deposit can be altered with a
non refundable "premium"
- You will be asked
to sign a
charter
contract (in several copies)
upon booking, or the latest upon
your embarkation. You will
also need to present your passports
to the company.

Insurance |
|
| |
Most of the charter sailboats
are insured against third party for
damages or personal injury.
For your own
safety though, which is not
covered from the above condition, we
highly recommend that you
take out an appropriate holiday
insurance. |
