2 weeks Ionian Sea sailing itinerary     (basic )

 Ionian Sea
On this two weeks Ionian Sea sailing holiday you will be able to visit the adjacent Ionian islands of Paxos, Lefkas, Kefalonia and Ithaca.  Also the ports in mainland (Epirus) of Mourtos, Parga and Preveza.

The itinerary has a medium difficulty, allowing you to visit 12 Port of Calls in 14 sailing days, a total of 212 nm with an average sailing distance of 16 nm every day.

This tour allows two resting days in the ports of your choice.  Most of the suggested harbours are safe at all weather.

This itinerary is designed to take you to the southest Port of Call (Fiscardo on Kefalonia island) in the 4rth day.  This, leaves ten more sailing days to return to Korfu, sailing against the NW wind (3-4  in beaufort scale) which usually blows in the Ionian during the summer months.

This tour allows two resting days in the ports of your choice.  Most of the suggested harbours are safe at all weather.

Ionian Sea sailing  WEEK ONE

Day 7    Vassiliki - Meganissi island  (18 nm)

        Lefkas island

Spartakhori - Meganissi
The bay of Spartohori is at the north end of Meganissi.  The town itself lies at the top of a very steep cliff, but the 15-20 minutes walk is well worth the effort, with a splendid view and quaint houses either side of narrow streets.

Day 8    Meganissi - Lefkas town  (10 nm)
Lefkas town harbour
Lefkas town is separated from the Greek mainland by a narrow channel via a pontoon bridge.  This is a good place to get the supplies up to date for the last part of the holiday.  There are many shops, banks and taverns.  You may be lucky and arrive at the time of one of the many song festivals, which take place throughout the summer.

Day 9    Lefkas town - Preveza  10 nm

Epirus  (mainland)

Preveza - Greece
The Preveza port of entry lies on the Greek mainland, guarding the gulf of Amvrakia.  Leading lights will guide your way into the gulf. On the left side of the channel a dense forest and the Fort St. George can be seen.  The channel is not likely to live up to the “official” depth of 8 meters - due to silting 6 meters and a strong cross-current is mentioned.

 Day 10    Preveza - Parga (16 nm)

Epirus (mainland Greece)

Parga
Next destination is the beautiful town of Parga.  It is a small, picturesque town with many attractions.  Parga has been built like an amphitheatre around the bay and is flanked by small inlets and coves, sandy beaches and islets off-shore with thickly wooded hills all around.  It is a perfect setting for a landscape artist.

Day 11   Parga - Port Gaios   (12 nm)

Paxos Island

Port Gaios - Paxos island
Paxos is the smallest of the seven main Ionian Islands.  When you step ashore at Gaios, the islands little port, you will find an exquisite miniature world just waiting to be discovered. Its charming 19th century houses, threaded by narrow lanes, lie at  the end of a closed “fjiord” surrounded by trees and shrubs. You can berth right in the middle of the busy scenery of this charming place.

 Day 12    Gaios - Petriti  (17 nm)

Corfu island

Petriti
The return to the shores of Corfu starts with the authentic fishing village of Petriti.  You can watch the fishermen sailing out in the evening and returning the next morning with that night's catch.  Dinner at the local taverns is always accompanied with one -maybe two- glasses of ouzo, the local aperitif.

Day 13  Petriti - Gouvia marina  (18 nm)

Regrettably, the last sailing day of your Corfu holidays has come and you will sail back to Gouvia marina.  On the way there are many bays to stop for that  last lunch and swim in the Ionian Sea.
